AltID

AltID is the official Danish app for IDs and credentials, allowing you to store your digital credentials in one place

The first credentials available in AltID are a Photo ID card and Proof of Age. If you choose to add a photo using your passport, the app can also function as a photo ID, like a passport or driver’s licence. Over time, you will be able to add more credentials and use the app across the EU. AltID does not replace MitID.

Your privacy is protected

AltID is designed to protect your privacy and personal details to the highest degree.

A key feature of AltID is that your credentials are stored locally on your phone. This means that the credential is your own personal copy.

When you use a credential, you share information directly from your own device. This means you can use your credentials without the issuer being able to see when or where you use them.

Protect your information with AltID

When using AltID, you are in control of where your information is shared. You decide what to share and with whom.

The Credentials

Anyone who signs up for AltID will receive a Photo ID card or a Proof of Identity. If you do not add a photo to the Photo ID card, it becomes a Proof of Identity.

Beside the photo, both credentials contain the same information: name, address, CPR number, place of birth, and nationality. The primary purpose of these credentials is to allow users to prove their identity to a recipient in a privacy-preserving and data-minimising way – both online and in person.

Users decide what information to share from the credential. For example, a user may choose to share only their name and address, and not their CPR number, place of birth, or nationality. Businesses and organisations may also request specific information from the credential.
With the Proof of Age, you can verify that you meet a specific age requirement e.g. that you are 15 or 18 years old or over, or that you are at the pensionable age. You do not share any personal details.

The Proof of Age can be used for age verification both online and in person, for example when purchasing alcohol in a supermarket.
