In Denmark there is a broad political consensus that the development and deployment of artificial intelligence should be accelerated, and that this should happen in a balanced and responsible manner with people and democratic values as a core focus.
Denmark has adopted a set of political strategies which concerns different aspects of artificial intelligence. These strategies outline how the Agency for Digital Government engages with artificial intelligence. Below you will find a brief description of the relevant strategies.
Denmark’s Strategy for Digitalisation
The Danish government along with the parties in parliament have formulated a strategy for digitalisation aimed at supporting the digital development of both the private and public sector. This strategy consists of 29 initiatives which will strengthen the digital education of children and adolescents, accelerate the digital green transition and establish a responsible foundation for the use of artificial intelligence.
Artificial intelligence has the potential to improve public service for citizens and companies, increase productivity and discover new solutions to support the green transition. Therefore, the development and deployment of artificial intelligence should be accelerated, however this approach must be balanced and take people and democratic values into account. Two of the 29 initiatives center on artificial intelligence.

Regulatory sandbox for artificial intelligence
Well-defined regulatory boundaries are a prerequisite for the use of artificial intelligence. Therefore, a regulatory sandbox for artificial intelligence has been established, which means that companies and public authorities working with artificial intelligence can gain access to project-specific guidance regarding relevant regulation such as the AI Act and the General Data Protection Regulation.
The strategy has been passed by all parties in the Danish parliament, who have agreed to allocate 740 mio. DKK from 2024-2027 in order to further digital development in Denmark.

The Joint Government Digital Strategy
Denmark has a well-developed digital public sector as a result of several years of cooperation between the government, Local Government Denmark and Danish Regions. This cooperation has resulted in the Joint Government Digital Strategies. The most recent strategy covers 2026-2029 and focuses on digitalization as a key part of handling the grand societal challenges, which Denmark faces.
Responsible use of data and new technology is an important tool, which can contribute to alleviating the labour shortage, support the green transition of Danish society and aid in the development of welfare in Danish society, with the healthcare sector being just one example.
