Today, a new support feature is launched in Digital Post. Citizens can now write and respond to Digital Post messages to public authorities on behalf of a family member or other close relations.
The new feature is designed to support individuals who struggle to communicate with public authorities through Digital Post independently.
With the new write-access feature, relatives and close relations can help their loved ones by replying to or creating messages to public authorities — such as hospitals or local municipalities — supporting them in their digital communication.
Write-access is an extension of the existing read-access feature. Currently, 250,000 citizens have granted read access to relatives or helpers, enabling them to read Digital Post from public authorities.
With both read- and write-access, it is now possible to read messages from public entities such as municipalities or hospitals and respond to messages or compose new ones on behalf of another person.
Citizens who wish to assist a loved one can request access through Digital Post at borger.dk, where they can also grant access to others. It is also possible to get help with granting or requesting read- and write-access by visiting a Citizen Service centre in person.
Once access is granted, the helper logs into Digital Post using their own MitID and then switches to the digital mailbox of the person they are assisting.
The introduction of read- and write-access in Digital Post marks an important step toward improving access for individuals who face challenges communicating digitally with public authorities.
It is one of several initiatives aimed at supporting citizens with digital difficulties and their helpers. These initiatives are part of the Joint Public Sector Digital Strategy 2022–2025 and the political agreement on digital inclusion from June 2023.
